The FDI Gateway provides secure and controlled access into the FDI System from outside the network. |
All external secure (internet) access is expected to be routed through one or more FDI gateways. Additionally, FDI gateways can provide transcoder services. That is they can provide low bit rate versions of data that is available in the internal network. This allows authorized users outside the corporate system secure access to live and historical information within the system over lower bandwidth infrastructure (the internet).
Additionally, FDI Gateways can be used to bridge FDI Systems between facilities, campuses, or continents, if the existing network facilities do not provide this function.
